Portafilter Adapters

Why Grinds Spill: Two Main Causes

Static electricity and dose size are the primary reasons grinds spill during grinding.

Static
Static can be reduced with a light water mist applied every other grinding batch or every few batches. The Ross Droplet Technique suggests misting beans before grinding. You can experiment with frequency—even misting once every second or third dose helps minimize static buildup.->See our water mister

Dose Size
Dose size is often misjudged because roast level affects volume significantly. A 17g dose of light roast takes up much less space than 17g of dark roast. Light roast beans retain more moisture, so the same weight requires less volume. Dark roast is drier and more prone to overflow in most portafilters at the same weight. Adjust your dose or portafilter size based on roast level to prevent spillage.

Baratza Shaker Riser Size Differences

The Baratza riser comes in three sizes to fit your brewing setup.

The original cup riser positions the included Encore ESP cup just below the grounds exhaust. Note that it sits off-center because the grinder's exhaust port itself is off-center.

The 75mm (3") riser stands 30mm (1-1/16") tall and provides 78mm of clearance, allowing you to fit a standard 3" wide shaker underneath.

Both the original and 3" risers feature a flattened top surface designed to accommodate a 3" vessel, with an additional recessed area in the back that holds the original cup directly under the exhaust port.

Baratza Compatibility

The portafilter adapter for Baratza Encore ESP is designed after the original bin and its curvature. Because Baratza maintains a highly standardized modular design across its product lines, the grounds bin on the Encore ESP is fully interchangeable with catch bins from several other models.

The Encore ESP grounds bin is compatible with:

Baratza Encore (Original / Base Model)
Baratza Encore ESP Pro
Baratza Virtuoso / Virtuoso+
Baratza Preciso
Baratza Maestro / Maestro Plus

This interchangeability means you can use replacement bins from any of these grinders with your Encore ESP, making it easy to find compatible parts and accessories.

When you visit the Baratza website that sells the replacement bin, it just says "Grounds bin compatible with all Conical Burr grinders (excluding Sette Grinders.)

So in conclusion, if you have any of these grinders, the Baratza encore ESP portafilter adapter that we sell it will fit.
